Context
- Companion app around the TV brand and its fan community
- Live polls, chat, quizzes, rankings, and selfie mechanics turn fandom into participation
- Extends the show brand beyond the broadcast slot through community interaction
Episodic entertainment lives on routine and identification. In our view, a companion app only earns its place if it gives fans a reason to return between broadcasts and makes the show feel socially alive beyond the TV slot. That is exactly where the Berlin - Tag & Nacht app becomes interesting.
We see the product as an attempt to turn a TV format into an ongoing community touchpoint. Instead of limiting itself to catch-up viewing, it gave fans ways to react, play along, and stay close to the brand in everyday use.

Core differentiator
What stands out is the way the app turns fandom into participation. Fans were not only consuming content. They could react to the show through votes, quizzes, chat, emojis, rankings, selfie filters, and smaller playful mechanics such as `Swiper` or `Swing-O-Meter`.
That changes the role of the product completely. In our reading, it becomes a community experience around the series, not just another mobile screen for watching episodes.
What the product delivers
- Full-episode viewing in-app
- Background info and series news
- Live participation via polls, votes, quizzes, and chat
- Selfie camera features, reactions, and fan ranking mechanics
- Optional ad-free episode playback through the later `VIP-Fan` offer
